*PKL Season 5* : "Puneri Paltan" beat "Patna Pirates"
In a match of "Pro Kabadi League" Inter Zonal Challenge Week, the Puneri Paltan defeated Patna Pirates by 47-42 and this was the first defeat of the defending champion Patna Pirates. The tremendous display of Pardeep Narwal of Patna Pirates did not work for them. Apart from him, Vinod Kumar also got 7 points. Rajesh Mondal, 10 and Captain Deepak Niwas Hooda scored 9 points on behalf of the Puneri Paltan. After this match, Puneri Paltan reached second in Zone A and Patna Pirates at 3rd place in Zone B.
Both teams showed quite aggressive game. *Puneri Paltan* got 29 points in the Raid and Patna secured 31 points. Both teams were all-out twice and scored 4-4 points for this. At the same time, Pune got an additional 2 points and Patna got 1 point.
Pune had a plan to stop Patna’s ‘raiding machine’ and to a point, they did manage to keep Pardeep quiet. It was the first time that Pardeep was taken down thrice in his first five raids. While Pardeep was kept out of action for over eight minutes in the first half, Pune took a lead of 12 points. "Patna Pirates" trailed 13-25 at halftime.
"Pardeep Narwal" of Patna Pirates was the hero of the match but could not win the match for his team. In the 24th minutes he got 19 points. For Patna, Vinod Kumar got 3 tackle points. Rajesh, who was the hero of Rajesh Mandal for the *Puneri Paltan*, got 10 points in 14 raid for his team. At the same time, Ziaur Rahman gave his team a decisive edge by securing 6 points in the tackle.
However, the ‘Dubki King’ made a strong comeback and went onto score 19 points from 24 raids and tried to get Patna back into the game. His super raid reduced the lead to 41-37, it was the successful tackle by Sandeep in the right corner to take down Patna Pirates raider Monu Goyat in the second last moment which pulled the things back in Pune’s favour.
At the end of the first half, the Puneri Paltan took the lead 25-13. But in the second half Patna made a great comeback. In the second half, Patna scored 29 points and Pune scored 22 points. But the first half margin proved to be crucial for Pune and the match got in the favour of Puneri Paltan.
